“Why are we poverty” – Ravens fans struggling to cope as Lamar Jackson requests trade

Baltimore Ravens v Jacksonville Jaguars
Quarterback Lamar Jackson announced on Monday morning that he asked the Baltimore Ravens for a trade on March 2, 2023.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson dropped a bombshell on Monday morning via his Twitter account. The 26 year old said that on March 2, 2023, he asked the Baltimore Ravens to trade him.

After the quarterback made the announcement, fans were shocked to say the least. Many on Twitter criticized the Baltimore Ravens organization for not being able to offer the quarterback a contract extension.

Others began taking guesses at where Jackson will play next season, even using trying to use clues in his Tweet. Needless to say, Ravens fans aren't taking the news well:

In the tweet thread, Lamar Jackson thanked fans for their love and support throughout his career.

He then said that not everything you may have read is true and he wanted to set the record straight. Jackson referred to the request as a 'business decision' and said that he will always love the Ravens fan base but that right now he needs to do what is right for him.

Just as Lamar Jackson posted his Tweet, head coach John Harbaugh sat down in front of the media to answer questions.

What did John Harbaugh say about Lamar Jackson's trade request?

Harbaugh was unaware and obviously hadn't had an opportunity to read the Tweet himself when the news exploded in front of him.

When asked about Jackson's trade request, he said that he is expecting to have him as the Ravens' quarterback next season. He also went on to say that he plans on building the team around Lamar and that he loves him.

“I’m getting ready for Lamar. … When Lamar gets back on this train, it’s moving full speed. We love him.”

Harbaugh also said that it's always an ongoing process when contract negotiations are happening, essentially saying that he doesn't expect Jackson to leave. This was a completely different tone to the one that the quarterback used in the Tweet, which read a lot like a goodbye.

We will see what happens as the situation in Baltimore continues to unfold.
