Last night, USC quarterback Caleb Williams took home the Heisman Trophy and won the most prestigious award in college football. Prior to winning the Heisman Trophy, Williams responded to comparisons between him and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and made a bold statement.

Per Zach Gelb of CBS Sports Radio, Williams said:

“It’s pretty cool, I’d say, just because everybody watches Patrick and sees all the cool things he can do. I always said even in high school that I don’t think there’s anything—obviously, he’s special, but I don’t think there’s anything that I can’t do that he’s doing out there.”

That's pretty daring for a quarterback who hasn't even set foot on an NFL field to have that much faith in his abilities.

Quarterbacks Max Duggan, C.J. Stroud, Stetson Bennett, and Hendon Hooker finished behind Williams, who became the first USC Trojan to win the award since Reggie Bush in 2005.

Williams had an outstanding season. As a sophomore, he threw for 4,075 yards and an FBS-leading 37 touchdowns with only four interceptions.

The Heisman award wasn't the only award the USC quarterback won this year. He also took home the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, AP College Football Player of the Year Award, and the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year Award.

It was bold for Williams to make a comparison to Mahomes, saying that he can do anything that Mahomes has done.

Mahomes made an immediate impact in the NFL and is already considered a top-ten QB in NFL history by some.

He was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

In his rookie season, he was a backup to quarterback Alex Smith before taking over as a starter in his sophomore season. Mahomes won MVP in his first season as a full-time starter, throwing for 50 touchdowns and 5,097 yards.

He led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers the following season.

His passer rating of 105.6 in 75 career games played is an NFL record, and he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league today, with a chance to win his second MVP.
