Robert Saleh has broken his silence after being fired by the Jets front office. The former coach was at the helm of the franchise since 2021 and has almost 20 years of coaching experience in the NFL. Now, he has shared his final message with Jets fans.
The New York Jets suffered a rocky start to the season, going 2-3. The final two games were the nail in the coffin for the 45-year-old. In Week 4, they lost 9-10 to the Denver Broncos at home and then 17-23 in a Week 5 London game against the Minnesota Vikings.
After being let go on Tuesday, Robert Saleh issued a heartfelt message to Jets fans worldwide in a statement through PFT.
“To the Jets organization, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with so many incredible people,” Saleh said in the statement. “I will always be appreciative of the love and support from everyone at 1 Jets Drive.
“To all of the players, I truly love and appreciate every single one of you. The character of the men in the locker room made coaching you guys the ultimate privilege. Through all the ups and downs, each and every one of you showed up everyday and attacked every moment.”
Robert Saleh appreciated the coaches and the staff at the Jets also. The former coach then talked to the fans in the statement.
“To the most passionate fan base in the NFL, thank you for embracing my family,” said Saleh. “It has been a pleasure calling New York our home and we will forever appreciate all of the memories that were created here.”
Jets owner speaks on the firing of Robert Saleh
As soon as the news of the Jets parting ways with Robert Saleh started hitting, the owner Woody Johnson issued a statement. Through the Jets’ official X page, the Jets owner thanked his team's former HC.
“I thanked him for his hard work these past three-and-a-half years and wished him and his family well moving forward. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be, given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction,” wrote Johnson.
That new direction will be Jeff Ulbrich, who has taken over as the interim head coach of the team. In addition to that, the 47-year-old will continue to be the DC of the Jets as well.
