Subway hints it removed Russell Wilson's 'Dangerwich' sandwich off menu because it's bad and not due to fan trolling

Russell Wilson's struggles continued in Week 6, as the Denver Broncos quarterback struggled in his team's 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday Night Football. The former Seattle Seahawks star attempted 28 passes and completed only 15 for 188 yards, and a touchdown as the Broncos dropped to 2-4 for the season.

During the game against the Chargers, Wilson also suffered a hamstring injury that is causing the quarterback severe pain that has put his availability for the Broncos game against the New York Jets on Sunday in jeopardy.

The Broncos star got more upsetting news this week as restaurant chain Subway reportedly removed the quarterback's signature sandwich, the Dangerwich, from the Vault menu. The Dangerwich's disappearance was first noted by a fan on social media, who posted a picture of Subway's online Vault menu that did not feature Wilson's signature sandwich.

Wilson featured in multiple ads promoting The Dangerwich, and none were popular among fans, who ridiculed it to no end on social media:

Subway confirms why Russell Wilson's Dangerwich was taken off the Vault menu

The social media frenzy about the sandwich's disappearance off the menu prompted Subway to release an official statement. A spokesperson for the restaurant chain told TMZ that The Dangerwich was taken off the menu back in August before the season began:

"Subway works with a variety of athlete partners, and The Vault is the perfect place to showcase their favorite sandwiches. While The Dangerwich sub left The Vault in August to make room for some new, craveable options, don't worry, The Dangerwich will be back soon!"

Per Subway, they removed the Dangerwich to replace it with "new, craveable options." That could mean one of only two things: The fans did not like the sandwich, and it wasn't selling well or social media incessantly trolling Russell Wilson prompted the restaurant chain to drop the product off their menu.

With Subway denying that online trolling of the sandwich played no role in the sandwich being taken off the Vault menu, it could only mean that slapping the quarterback's name on the sandwich did not help its popularity.

Either way, it's another blow to Russell Wilson, who is certainly the eye of the storm right now.
