Former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton retired from coaching following the 2021 season. However, he already seems to have plans of coming out of retirement.
Appearing on Tom Brady's Let's Go! podcast, Payton revealed that he wants to return to coaching in the next year or two.
“I think sooner than later. I really enjoy the current job I have.... But I think relative to coaching, though, I know that I want to coach again and it’s not really been a secret. But I wanna find the right spot. And as Tom alluded to, you know, it’s still about the people. Because when it’s all done and it’s quiet, I don’t think it’s the money or the crowd cheers or the trophies or any of that other stuff.
"I think it’s about the journey with the people that you really enjoy. So we’ll kind of see what happens. But sooner than later, though, in fairness to that question. I think that, you know, if not this year, hopefully next year.”
Payton coached the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2021. He won Super Bowl XLIV with the team as well as winning AP Coach of the Year in 2006. In his career as a head coach, he has a record of 161-97 with a win percentage of .624.
Payton retired following the 2021 season, but there were rumors that the Miami Dolphins were trying to pair him with Brady.
It was reported that they offered Payton a 5-year, $100 million deal. Months later, on 2nd August, 2022, Miami had to forfeit a first and third-round draft pick as well as being fined $1.5 million for tampering with Brady and Payton.
The two could have possibly been paired together as Brady had briefly retired before rejoining the Bucs.
Tom Brady's Buccaneers defeated the Saints last night
On Monday night, Tom Brady had another Tom Brady-like game. He helped improve the Buccaneers to 6-6 following their close 17-16 victory over the New Orleans Saints.
Tampa Bay trailed New Orleans for most of the game. With 5:21 left in the fourth quarter, the Saints led 16-3.
Brady led the Bucs to two touchdown drives, both resulting in him throwing a touchdown.
Running back Rachaad White caught the game-winning touchdown with three seconds left to lift the Buccaneers to an incredible late fourth-quarter comeback.
