New Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton is seen as someone who can turn the embattled franchise around and it starts with Russell Wilson. For many, he has a lot of work to do in order to get Denver back to where they think it should be.

The biggest issue that he needs to fix is Russell Wilson, and according to various sources, he isn't exactly thrilled with the idea. In fact, one year is all Payton is giving Wilson to turn his form around, per Matthew Berry of NBC Sports.

A source told Berry at the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis:

“I don't think [Sean] Payton likes Russell Wilson. He's got one year to prove himself or Payton will move on.” This source pointed out that Payton has said multiple times in public, on the record, how Russell keeps “bothering Drew Brees.”

This news will certainly prick the ears of Broncos fans. After seemingly thinking that they are stuck with the underperforming Wilson for the foreseeable future, it appears that Payton is ready to pull the trigger after only 12 months.

The salary cap ramifications don't appear to deter Payton from making what many would call a big decision for the franchise.

Could Sean Payton really part ways with Russell Wilson?

If what Berry has heard is true, then absolutely. After arriving in Denver on big money, Wilson was severely underwhelming in his first season at Mile High.

He played 15 games, had a 4-11 record, and threw only 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.

Now with an offensive wizard in Payton arriving on the scene, the general thought is that he can "fix" Wilson and get him back to the level he was at in Seattle.

He only has one year to do it otherwise Payton will look to move on from Wilson. With so many offensive weapons at his disposal, the fact that Wilson was as poor as he was last season is certainly worrying.

Now linking up with Payton, he needs to show something quickly. As Berry stated, it's a one-year audition, and Russell Wilson can't afford many slip-ups.
