The Seattle Seahawks needed a big performance from quarterback Geno Smith to help them end their two-game losing streak when they hosted the San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field on Thursday Night Football. However, the NFL veteran has had an outing to forget.
In the first quarter, the 34-year-old led the Seahawks offense down the 49ers' 25-yard line and had them in position to take the lead. However, on a 3rd-and-5 play, he overthrew a touchdown pass attempt to Tyler Lockett and was picked off at the 1-yard line by safety Malik Mustapha.

In the fourth quarter, Smith had the opportunity to make amends and lead the Seahawks on a 92-yard touchdown drive that would've seen them take the lead after trailing by 20 points.

On a 1st-and-18 play from Seattle's 15-yard line, he tried to find DK Metcalf for a big play in the middle of the field. However, cornerback Renardo Green read the play, stepped in front of the wide receiver, intercepted the pass, and set up an easy scoring opportunity for the visitors, which they converted with a touchdown.
Smith was heavily criticized for his errors on social media, as fans flamed the quarterback:
A few fans claimed that this performance should be enough to persuade the Seahawks to make the quarterback position a priority in the 2025 NFL draft:
"Seahawks are going to have to go get a qb in the draft." - Wrote @Sportsbank100
"I will never understand how some people still think Geno is the answer at QB... The Hawks just need to have a bad record and draft an actual QB." - Opined @HarukaTakamaki
"I keep telling Seahawks fans Geno Smith is trash, and all these times they were calling me idiots I told you guys we need to draft a QB." - Remarked @commentator11
