Heading into the NFL season, Rashee Rice seemed like a risky prospect. The Chiefs wide receiver had a pending court date that could have ended his season early. However, managers who took the plunge with Rice were initially given the good news that a court date would occur after the season, in June 2025.
Around the same time, Rice proved to be a productive member. That said, he suffered a devastating injury not long after establishing that baseline. Is it time to cut ties with Rice for fantasy managers?

Per insider Ian Rapoport via NFL media, Rice is expected to miss the rest of the 2024 season. The receiver has a damaged LCL that requires surgery. His ACL appears to be intact, so he seemingly avoids a much longer recovery time.
That said, his recovery time is already set to be three months, which would effectively end his Fantasy Football season. As such, it is time to cut ties with Rice. Some may wish to hold onto him in dynasty fantasy leagues, but keep in mind that Rice might not be available for the 2025 season on account of his ongoing off-field court battle as he faces multiple felony charges.
Rashee Rice's fantasy outlook for the rest of 2024 season
The outlook is grim. With a three-month recovery time on the books, Rice is not expected to see the field again. While three months might not rule him out for the Super Bowl, should the Kansas City Chiefs make it that far, the fantasy football season will be a memory by that point.
At this point, dropping Rice is appropriate. Managers might be tempted to place him on their IR list, but they most likely would be wasting a reserve spot. That said, it would at least give managers a posted excuse if their team struggles for the rest of the season.
Rice's season is set to wrap with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Of course, with Rice off the books, managers might be interested in taking a look at Kareem Hunt, Juju Smith-Schuster, or Carson Steele if they are available in your league. All three players offer a taste of the Kansas City offense and have been getting extra work without Rice.
