Heading into the offseason, fans and pundits were once again braced for a drawn-out decision-making process for the quarterback.Up & Adams@UpAndAdamsShowDwight Freeney questions whether or not Aaron Rodgers wants to win a Super Bowl:“I don’t think the Jets are an organization that’s one guy away from playing in the Super Bowl.” @heykayadams | @dwightfreeney755Dwight Freeney questions whether or not Aaron Rodgers wants to win a Super Bowl:“I don’t think the Jets are an organization that’s one guy away from playing in the Super Bowl.” @heykayadams | @dwightfreeney https://t.co/Q7SjArk72oIn previous years, he had already floated the idea of retirement or jumping ship. However, with retirement off the table for another year, the quarterback has intentions of following in Brett Favre's footsteps. Many have speculated that the quarterback's motivation to continue playing isn't money.NFL on ESPN@ESPNNFL.@diannaESPN provided more information on Aaron Rodgers' ideal wish list for the Jets:1957210.@diannaESPN provided more information on Aaron Rodgers' ideal wish list for the Jets: https://t.co/57z5EOqqAZRather, speculation has run rampant that Rodgers is attempting to show up his former mentor Brett Favre. Favre's first stop after leaving the Green Bay Packers was also the New York Jets. Favre set a decent bar but not an impossible one. In his lone season with the team, he went 8-3 before sliding to 9-7, throwing for 22 touchdowns and 22 interceptions. If Rodgers can get more than one game over .500 and throw one more touchdown than the number of interceptions, he will have a concrete argument. Failing that, even if he plays two seasons for the team, many would argue he will have eclipsed the quarterback.Otherwise, there could be an opportunity to follow in Favre's footsteps once again. After leaving the Jets, Favre landed in Minnesota with the Vikings, where he played for two seasons. With speculation on the rise about Kirk Cousins' long-term future with the team, a small chance of the team needing a quarterback in 2024 could materialize. However, with that being quite a way from now, the first step for the quarterback is to get to New York. A deal has not quite been finalized with the Packers. Some are looking at the situation and placing the NFL Draft as the next likely deadline for the deal, so the Packers can immediately turn around and get an instant return on losing their quarterback.
