After five seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, safety Terrell Edmunds has signed a one-year contract with the in-state rival Philadelphia Eagles. The former first-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech did give the Steelers solid production on the field the last few seasons and was typically healthy throughout his tenure.
He will likely fill the empty spot that C.J. Gardner-Johnson left behind on the Philadelphia Eagles roster after he signed with the Detroit Lions.
Terrell Edmunds Eagles contract breakdown:
The one-year deal that Terrell Edmunds signed with the Philadelphia Eagles is said to be worth $2 million, with $600,000 in guaranteed money. The contract also includes another $650,000 in incentives. He will get a $250,000 signing bonus, and if he plays all 17 games for the Eagles this season, he will earn an additional $379,411.
His contract is also said to include other individual incentives that could pay out over $350,000 more to the deal. Many are wondering why the safety would take a smaller deal than the Steelers paid him last year with a $2.5 million contract.
Some fans are wondering whether the Pittsburgh Steelers even offered Edmunds a contract this offseason. Perhaps this is another step in their plan to reorganize the secondary.
Terrell Edmunds Madden rating
Heading into the 2022 NFL season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the strong safety was given a Madden rating of 78. The highest on the Steelers defense included T.J. Watt with 96 and Cameron Heyward with 93. The safety was still one of the highest on the defensive side of the ball for the Steelers.
Terrell Edmunds injury history
With a torn labrum in his left shoulder, the now 26-year-old played the majority of his final season at Virginia Tech. He decided to have surgery to repair his labrum and get ready for the NFL Draft in mid-November of that year. He was unable to play in the final three games of the season.
Toward the end of the 2021 NFL season, he suffered a minor groin injury that required him to be listed on the injury report.
In October 2022, he suffered a mild concussion in the Pittsburgh Steelers' matchup against the New York Jets. He collided with Jets running back Michael Carter as both players attempted to get the ball in the air.
Other than that, he was rather healthy during his tenure, playing 75 of 79 NFL games.
