Tua Tagovailoa's career has been marred by different injuries so far, but nothing has affected his health more than concussions. After having two in 2022, the quarterback once again suffered a scary head injury in Week 2 of the 2024 season and missed four games as a result.
Although he's healthy and has returned to play normally, three concussions in three years had many fans and analysts speculating about his long-term health, especially as the symptoms made him go to the injured reserve earlier in the season. Avoiding head hits is a priority for the quarterback for the rest of the season.
At least it should be. Because NFL fans were livid with Tagovailoa after he tried to tackle Christian Rozeboom, a linebacker from the Los Angeles Rams who had intercepted his pass, diving head first and putting himself at unnecessary risk:
"The CTE has taken over, let him do whatever he wants," said one fan.
"We are going to watch a documentary on this guy in 15 years from now," another fan criticized.
"What the hell is wrong with him? Does he enjoy being concussed?," asked another fan.
Nothing happened with the quarterback, and he was back on the field as soon as the Miami Dolphins got the ball back. But after so many head injuries, it's understandable why fans were concerned with his health.
How many concussions has Tagovailoa suffered during his career?
In his fifth season in the NFL, Tagovailoa's injury history isn't small. Officially, he suffered two concussions in 2022 and a third one in 2024 against the Buffalo Bills. Concussions are understood to cause long-term injuries on the brain, hence why so many fans have been concerned.
The Miami Dolphins are another concerned part. This offseason, they gave him a massive four-year, $212.M contract extension, and if injuries continue to play a part in his career, then Miami could quickly regret this deal.
But he's also a guy who makes a huge difference when he's on the field. The Dolphins upset the Rams 23-15, and Tagovailoa put a performance with 20 completed passes out of 28 attempts, 207 yards and a touchdown, albeit with an interception.
A 3-6 record is not great, but there's still a path for the Dolphins to make the playoffs as a Wild Card. The current 7th seed is the Denver Broncos with a 5-5 record.
