Former high school teacher, football coach, and longtime National Guard member, Tim Walz was named the running mate of Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday to represent the Democratic Party. Walz, who is also a former congressman, is currently in his second term as the governor of Minnesota.
Upon learning about the big political news, fans were quick to discover that Walz has a football background. He was a defensive coordinator for Mankato High School in Minnesota, which he helped bring home a state title. Walz was a fan of an old-school defensive alignment and implemented it into his defenses at Mankato.
NFL insider Benjamin Allbright shared the news on X with his football followers.
"A football angle for those interested in Tim Walz, Walz was a defensive coordinator at Mankato High School (they ran a 4-4) and coached the defense of the school's first state championship in 1999."

Upon learning that Walz was a former football coach, fans on social media had mixed reactions. Some liked that Walz has a football background, and others even joked that every VP should have some football knowledge.
A fan added a comment and asked if Walz could help coach certain teams in the NFL.
"Can he coach the @dallascowboys," one fan jokingly questioned.
"Sold," one person simply wrote.
"All VPs should be required to have an expansive knowledge of blitz packages," one fan said.
Some fans were fascinated to learn that Walz ran a 4-4 defense. It consists of four down linemen and four linebackers, a formation that isn't seen too much these days in football.
Here's how more fans reacted:
"I played at Mankato West. We ran that 4-4 single high safety up until 2012. The school won four state championships running the old-school defense. #readtheguards," one fan wrote.
"Our high school ran a 4-4. Lots of shifts & stunts to stop run game. Don't think it would work well vs modern spread offenses. I'm hesitant about a VP who ran 4-4 when times have changed," one fan said.
"Running a 4-4 is madness. Love it," one fan wrote.
Joe Burrow, Daniel Jones not linked to 'White Dudes for Kamala Harris' call
On July 29, an online fundraiser in support of Kamala Harris and the Democratic party was created, and called "White Dudes for Harris."
In the Zoom calls, members urged white men to vote for Harris. As the virtual call went on, some people pointed out that quarterbacks Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Daniel Jones joined the video. However, it was confirmed that none of the three QBs participated in the campaign.
