The Washington Commanders recently signed Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to be their OC and assistant head coach.

Some people criticized the move and questioned why Bieniemy wanted to leave Kansas City for the same job elsewhere. Others felt Bieniemy was not good enough to be an assistant head coach.

Former Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill defended Bieniemy on the Cheetah_podcast. He credited Bieniemy for helping him develop as a player.

Hill said:

"When I first got into the league, I was a running back and EB coaches running backs. He made me understand who I was as a player and to him, it's bigger than football, like playing football is part of the blessing.
"But outside of football, who you are as a person, how you carry yourself every day as a person, that's the message he was delivering. To me though, that made me realize who I was. That made me understand my true power."

Hill added:

"And truth be told, not a lot of people will understand EB as a coach, because he's a yeller. He likes to yell, he likes to do this and that. But this sh*t don't faze me bro. I must be able to sit down and listen to you and talk to you and do whatever you got to do as long as you get the message to me."

Hill and Bieniemy were two major weapons for the Kansas City Chiefs in the last five seasons, but now both are gone.

Hill was traded last off-season to the Miami Dolphins in a blockbuster deal that gave the Chiefs their first, second and fourth-round pick in 2022, and a fourth and sixth-round pick in 2023.

Hill recorded a career-high in receptions (119) and yards (1,710) in a single-season last year.

Under Bieniemy, the team had a top-five offense in each of the last five years. He's been regarded as one of the best offensive coordinators in football over the last few years. He's had multiple head-coaching interviews in the last few years but hasn't landed that job yet.
