Colts fans celebrate team firing HC Frank Reich

The Indianapolis Colts fired head coach Frank Reich.

On Monday morning, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they had fired head coach Frank Reich. Indianapolis got off to a 3-5-1 start to the season and suffered an embarrassing 26-3 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday afternoon.

Last week, the Colts announced that they will be starting second-year quarterback Sam Ehlinger over veteran quarterback Matt Ryan. The team's issues on both sides of the ball are evident, and just last week, Reich announced that offensive coordinator Marcus Brady was relieved of duty.

When the news was announced that Reich was dismissed from his coaching duties, fans took to Twitter to express their feelings about the move. Many agreed with team owner Jim Irsay's decision to move on from Reich.

Others have started making their predictions on where Frank Reich will coach next or if he will. Meanwhile, others wondered whether it was the sudden retirement of quarterback Andrew Luck that sent Indianapolis into a total tailspin over the last few seasons.

Colts hire Jeff Saturday as interim head coach

Typically when an NFL team parts ways with its head coach and coordinators, an interim head coach is named. That person is usually a fellow coordinator or another coach on the staff.

However, the Indianapolis Colts and team owner Jim Irsay decided to go with former player Jeff Saturday as the interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022-23 NFL season.

Although he has some coaching experience at the high school level, he hasn't coached at the collegiate or NFL level in his career. He is currently working as an NFL analyst for ESPN. It appears that he is the first person to be hired to take over head coaching responsibilities without any experience.

The Colts hired Saturday ahead of two former head coaches that are on their coaching staff. Former Denver Broncos head coach John Fox is a senior defensive assistant and former Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley is the defensive coordinator.

The question now remains who will run the offense as both Brady and Reich are gone? While other offensive assistants could take over play-calling, it may not be of any help to a struggling Indy offense.
