In the wake of the Atlanta Falcons's 36-30 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, Kirk Cousins to Waffle House went with his family. While in the parking lot, he had an interview with Dan Patrick that has since gone viral on X.
The veteran quarterback reflected on his connection with wide receiver Drake London, which played a crucial role in securing the Falcons' dramatic win. This was the second time the two made a connection. However, this time, it happened in overtime.
"Drake [London] got hurt on the play before and had to come out,” Cousins said. “KhaDarel had been coming in all game long when Drake needed a blow. He subbed in like he had been throughout the game."
“I just go out and read the play, and it was man coverage. KhaDarel’s route vs. man coverage is not a winning route, but the corner was off enough that I thought, ‘You know what, against my better judgement, I’m just going to drive this ball into him and not progress.’"
Kirk Cousins became the 22nd quarterback to throw for 500 yards in NFL history while taking the Falcons to a victory over the Buccaneers. The former Redskins and Vikings quarterback has played better by the week and last night looked like his best version, although his mobility has decreased after his Achilles injury.
Falcons fans react to Kirk Cousins interview with Dan Patrick
After the interview went viral, plenty of fans had something to say about it. It didn't take long for them to joke about Kirk Cousins' parking right outside the Waffle House establishment.
"Kirk Cousins is currently doing an interview this morning with Dan Patrick and he’s sitting in the parking lot of a Waffle House. What Atlanta does to a man," Falcons reporter Tori McElhaney tweeted on Friday.
"A man of taste," one fan said.
"If this doesn’t make you like Kirk Cousins then nothing will," another fan said.
Others said that the Atlanta culture was already winning him over.
"That’s why he threw for 509 last night. WaHo out here changing lives. 😂," one fan wrote.
"Kirk seems like he’s enjoying the culture here more than Washington and Minnesota. That man is gonna be an ATL legend," another fan said.
The Falcons improved to 3-2 after this win, keeping their chances to compete for the NFC South division alive.
