Why isn't Kyler Murray playing tonight?

The Arizona Cardinals are doing battle with the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC showdown in Mexico City for Monday Night Football without Kyler Murray. The Cardinals are coming off a 27-17 win over the L.A. Rams last time out while the 49ers won a tight contest against the L.A. Chargers 22-16.

The game will have NFC implications for both teams, but it could be harder for the Cardinals as quarterback Kyler Murray is not suited up for Kliff Kingsbury tonight.

Murray missed last week's win over the Rams that thrust Colt McCoy into the starting role. McCoy did well enough to secure the win. Hopefully, he can do the same tonight.

Kyler Murray's injury: What happened to Cardinals QB?

Kyler Murray is not playing in the Week 11 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers due to a hamstring issue. Murray missed last week's win over the Rams and was limited in practice this week for Arizona.

Given the nature of hamstring injuries, the Cardinals are likely playing the slow game with their franchise quarterback. Given the state of Arizona's season, there is no real rush to thrust him back before he is ready.

When will Kyler Murray return from injury?

The way the Cardinals' season is going (4-6 and third in the NFC West), Kingsbury might hold Murray back. It is not known exactly how long Murray will be out for, but hamstrings are usually a three to four week injury.

Going by that timeline, the Cardinals starter has already missed two games (including the 49ers game), so the quarterback's return could be in a week or two. Depending on how Arizona fares in those games, Murray might be held out altogether.

Who is Cardinals' backup QB?

Colt McCoy is the Cardinals' back-up quarterback. Since he started last week and got the win, coach Kingsbury will be hoping for more of the same. The 36-year-old McCoy has made a good living as a back-up throughout the years.

McCoy has been in the league for over a decade. He has played for Washington, Cleveland, San Francisco, the New York Giants and now the Cardinals. He is 11-23 as a starter and has thrown for 7,433 yards, 34 touchdowns and 29 interceptions.
