What happened to Romeo Doubs? Packers WR exits Week 12 showdown vs 49ers after nasty hit - Source: Imagn

The Packers dominated the 49ers in the first half and continued that in the second half with Romeo Doubs playing a crucial role in it. However, he put his body on the line and picked up an injury in the process.

With the score 17-7, Green Bay was looking to turn their dominance into a bigger lead. To do so, Jordan Love threw a deep pass in the endzone for Romeo Doubs. The wide receiver nearly had it but was fouled by a San Francisco defender, who gave a defensive pass interference penalty.

But that made Romeo Doubs fall and smash his head on the turf. It was immediately clear that he was in trouble as he did not get up even though the penalty in his favor set up a first-and-goal for the Packers. His teammates crowded around him before he got up and walked on his power to the medical tent.

After a few minutes, he came out and made his way to the locker room. He was eventually ruled out for the game with a head injury.

Romeo Doubs' injury jeopardizes participation for Packers vs. Dolphins

Romeo Doubs' head injury was scary but it was good to see him get back up and walk into the locker room. However, because it is a concussion, he will need to enter the protocol surrounding such incidents. While there is no timeline for when he will return, he will need to go through a checklist and external evaluations before he can return to the field.

The Packers have a short turnaround following their Sunday matchup against the 49ers. They play the Dolphins next on Thursday and such a short turnaround does not give the wide receiver much time to recover.

Green Bay is pretty much in must-win territory going into the final weeks of the 2024 NFL season because they play in such a competitive division. Despite the Packers' 7-3 record entering into this matchup against the 49ers, they are third in the NFC North because the Lions and Vikings are having great years too.

After playing Miami next week, they have to face Detroit in Week 14. If they are to have any chance of catching up with the division leaders, they would need to win against the Dolphins before facing the Lions. Now, it looks likely that the Packers might have to undertake the first of those matches without Romeo Doubs' services.
