When Julian Edelman doubled down on Martellus Bennett’s ‘Jimmy Garoppolo is a b**ch’ take- “I’m not gonna lie, I got mad about it”

Jimmy Garoppolo served as a backup to Tom Brady during his days for the New England Patriots. After Brady was suspended for the start of the 2016 season, Garoppolo took his place.

The Patriots lost just two games that season, and Martellus Bennett believes that one of them was because of Garoppolo. The former tight-end was very upset with how Jimmy G pulled out of the game against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4 due to an injury.

Here's what Martellus Bennett said on "Double Coverage With The McCourty Twins," referring to Garoppolo:

"He decided not to play right before the game. Jacoby (Brissett) came out and played with a f*c*ed up thumb and played his heart out, but Jimmy was just being a b**ch about it all ... you can't win with a b**ch for a quarterback, first of all."

That wasn't all either. Bennett went on to say:

"That was the whole thing with him: He didn't want to come out and do anything because his agent was trying to protect his body or some sh*t like that. Which, I can't fault him for that, But like, you should have made that decision on Thursday. Now it's Sunday."

In light of Bennett's comments about Garoppolo, former New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman said this on the "I Am Athlete" podcast:

"I guess Jimmy was practicing and then decided not to play. And Jacoby [Brissett] played with no ligaments in his thumb, which... you can't do that as a quarterback. You can't grip. A lot of guys got mad about it."

Edelman continued:

"A lot of guys got mad. I'm not gonna lie, I got mad about it. I sacrifice my body all day long. I was taking shots for this, numbing up that, ribs, broken ribs, shoulders, you know, Grade 3, hanging on by limbs, just to play. And you know, I can understand why Marty thinks like that."

The 'Patriots' way' was a big thing back then and the players certainly didn't like Garoppolo's agent protecting him from injuries at short notice.

Jimmy Garoppolo was later traded to the San Francisco 49ers in 2017, and since then has been their quarterback. He has suffered a number of injuries over the course of his career and is currently out with a broken foot.

Jimmy Garoppolo will be out for the rest of the campaign and is likely to leave the 49ers after this season. He replaced an injured Trey Lance this season and played well until he suffered another injury.

Brock Purdy has played exceptionally well in Garoppolo's absence, and as a result, the 49ers could be tempted to part ways with Jimmy G.

Multiple teams are likely interested in Garoppolo's services and it will be interesting to see where he plays next season.
