Marcus Mariota was the second-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft as he was selected by the Tennessee Titans. He was picked right after Jameis Winston and was the second player to hear his name called that night.

Although NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell pronounced Jameis Winston's name correctly, he botched it up when it came to Mariota. Goodell pronounced Mariota's last name as "Mariotto.".

Mariota was the Tennessee Titans' quarterback from 2015-2019. He led them to a playoff appearance in 2017 and won a game for them in the post-season. During the 2019 season, the team turned to Ryan Tannehill after acquiring him via trade.

Mariota signed a two-year, $17.6 million, contract with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. He spent two seasons as Derek Carr's backup. This past season, he played with the Atlanta Falcons and started most of the season, finishing with a 5-8 record while rushing for a career-high 438 yards.

He was released by the Falcons on February 28, 2023.

Less than a month after his release from the Atlanta Falcons, Mariota signed a one-year contract worth up to $5 million with the Philadelphia Eagles. Under the contract, Mariota will serve as Jalen Hurts' backup. Mariota replaces Gardner Minshew, who signed with the Indianapolis Colts this off-season in free agency.

Mariota could be a better backup option in Philly as he's similar to Hurts in his mobility. After joining the Eagles, he will now be on the fourth team of his nine-year NFL career.
