Where is Joe Montana? What is the legendary NFL QB doing now?

SiriusXM At Super Bowl LIV - Day 3
Former NFL player Joe Montana is a legend of the game.

Joe Montana is one of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks and a regular candidate in GOAT debates. The San Francisco 49ers legend went four in four in Super Bowls and helped make the 49ers a dynasty. Montana retired from the NFL following two years with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Since retiring, the Hall of Famer has become a keen angel investor and venture capital operator. He went head-on into the market following his retirement, thanks to some friends in the industry.

In the words of Montana:

"Right after I retired, Ronnie Lott and Harris Barton came to me and said, 'Let us start a fund of funds. Our friends are all these venture guys running top-tier funds like Sequoia (Capital), Kleiner (Perkins), Accel, and Greylock (Partners).' We leveraged our friendships into access to those and then grew them."

His enthusiasm for investing has not wavered, as the Super Bowl champ has blossomed in his new career path.

Montana co-founded HRJ Capital with his friends and helped grow the fund of funds' AUM to more than $900 million before his departure in 2004. Montana's payout remains undisclosed, but he earned quite a healthy buck, thanks to the investment.

Not one to pass up a challenge, Montana co-founded Modern in 2005, just a year after leaving HRJ Capital. Between 2005 and 2010, he served as a board member and helped grow the company. He also had spells with companies like Liquid 2 Ventures and Cloud9.

Now, Joe Montana spends most of his free time angel investing and taking a chance on potentially successful businesses. Trust us when we say it: the 49ers legend is doing well.

Joe Montana's Super Bowl Legacy

Joe Montana's Super Bowl Legacy is Michael Jordan-esque. The NFL icon appeared in four Super Bowl games and won all of them.

He was the Super Bowl MVP in three appearances, proving an unstoppable force when the lights shone the brightest. Montana had outwardly weapons in Dwight Clark, Jerry Rice, Roger Craig and Ronnie Lott.

Nevertheless, he still had to sling the ball masterfully to these threats to utilize their talents. Montana emerged victorious in Super Bowls XVI, XIX, XXIII and XXIV. He was the biggest winner of the 1980s, and it's not even close.

Moreover, Joe Montana wasn't just a Super Bowl-centric QB but also a menace to NFL teams in the regular season. He put up a stat line of 40,551 passing yards, 273 touchdowns and 139 interceptions in 192 games in the NFL. He also won two regular season MVP awards for good measure.
