The Atlanta Falcons' versatile running back Cordarrelle Patterson broke the NFL record for most kickoff-return touchdowns in history in Week 11 of the 2022 season. Late in the second quarter of a home fixture against the Chicago Bears, Patterson took a kickoff-return 103 yards to the house, making history on an incredible play.
The running back showed incredible acceleration and after breaking free was unstoppable in securing his record-breaking ninth kickoff-return touchdown. Watch the video below:
Patterson has a reputation as a dynamic threat throughout his career. He has lined up as a wide receiver, running back and even on defense, but is an incredible returner. Combining speed, power and agility with his capable hands, Patterson is a nightmare for defenses to prepare for.
Cordarrelle Patterson's NFL career thus far
Cordarrelle Patterson was selected 29th overall in the first round of the 2013 draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He was taken as a result of a draft-day trade with the New England Patriots, who received four draft picks (a second, third, fourth and seventh).
He spent four seasons with the Vikings before signing with the Oakland Raiders in the 2017 season. After a solitary campaign with the Raiders, he spent a season with the New England Patriots. Two years with the Chicago Bears followed before he arrived at the Atlanta Falcons prior to the 2021 season.
Atlanta recognized his potential and turned the wide receiver into a running back, where he became something of a nightmare to defend against. During his career, Cordarrelle Patterson has recorded some impressive stats.
At the time of writing, Patterson has recorded 2,674 receiving yards and 15 receiving touchdowns, while rushing for 2,037 yards and 19 touchdowns. He has also returned an NFL record of nine kickoffs for touchdowns. Interestingly, Cordarrelle Patterson has never returned a punt for a touchdown.
Playing the 10th season of his NFL career in the 2022 campaign, there may be a limited window for him to add to his incredible kickoff-return numbers. Based on his record-breaking return, however, he still has plenty left in the tank.
