It's no secret that Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale bets enormous sums of money on sports, and NFL postseason games are no different.
The 71-year-old Houston furniture dealer has always made headlines for his outrageous bets on Texas sports teams. He had his eyes on the 2023 championship game, staking $200,000 on the Dallas Cowboys to claim the NFC Championship and go to the Super Bowl.
McIngvale would have received $1.45 million had the Cowboys been successful. The loss was surprising, but it was just a tiny portion of McIngvale's massive marketing budget.

Mattress Mack is famous for putting up sizable sums of money on a sports wager. He placed significant bets on the Cincinnati Bengals to beat the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.
However, the businessman lost a reported $10 million in the big game last year as the Rams won the Lombardi Trophy.
He also bet on the Houston Astros to win the World Series and Kansas to win the NCAA men's basketball championship last year.
In the college football national championship game, he staked more than $1 million on TCU, a gamble that could have paid out $5.55 million, but he lost that one, as Georgia trounced the Horned Frogs.

Mattress Mack is well-liked in Houston for his generosity. His profits do not necessarily go straight into his pocket. McIngvale's winnings are entirely intended to benefit the patrons of his Gallery Furniture store. He said to a local news program in November:
"Because we run promos at the furniture store, I place these bets. I placed a wager and won $75 million; I returned $73 million to the consumers and spent the remaining $2 million on expenses. It allows us to carry out these fantastic promos. Particularly when they support local teams like the Houston Astros and Houston Cougars, people still love them. We enjoy this sports marketing since it is effective and helps to keep us relevant as a furniture store."
Even while McIngvale might seem like an addicted big-money bettor with gambling problems who desperately needs therapy, he's only losing a small part of the funds he has won. He lost $10 million when the Cincinnati Bengals were beaten in the Super Bowl in February 2022.
