The 2022 MVP NFL is quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. He was named the MVP at the NFL Honors celebration in Phoenix.

He received 48 out of 50 first-place votes, totaling 490 points, making him the almost unanimous choice. Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, came in second with 193 points. Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings finished in the top five.

Mahomes guided the Chiefs to a 14-3 record in the regular season of the 2022 NFL and the top overall seed in the AFC playoffs. Three days after winning the MVP award, his team went on to win the Super Bowl. He was selected to the NFL's First Team All-Pro in 2022 after leading the NFL in throwing yards and TDs.

Mahomes led Kansas City back to the Super Bowl for the third time in four years after sustaining a high ankle sprain in the team's first postseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Mahomes, who won the 2018 NFL MVP in his first full season as the starting quarterback, joined Jim Brown and Brett Favre as the third player to earn his second MVP before turning 28. That year, the Chiefs lost the AFC title game, but the next year, Mahomes rallied them to a Super Bowl triumph over San Francisco.

Who has the most MVP NFL awards?

The distinction of receiving the most MVP NFL honors in NFL history belongs to Peyton Manning.

Before winning it for a fifth time with the Denver Broncos, he won it four times with the Indianapolis Colts. His first two awards came in consecutive years (2003 and 2004); his third and fourth wins came in back-to-back seasons too (2008 and 2009). After his second year with the Broncos in 2013, Manning won his last NFL MVP award.

Just one non-QB, the illustrious running back Jim Brown, has earned the NFL MVP award on multiple occasions. Between 1957 and 1965, Brown won all three of his MVP awards while playing for the Cleveland Browns.

Three other quarterbacks have won the MVP NFL honor twice, besides Mahomes. With the San Francisco 49ers, Steve Young and Joe Montana won the prize twice. The other player to receive the honor twice is Kurt Warner. He received his first honor in 1999 and his second two years later.
