Why are the Philadelphia Eagles so good this season?

The Philadelphia Eagles keep piling up wins and are off to an astonishing 7-0 start to the 2022 season. Led by Jalen Hurts, the Eagles are the last unbeaten team in the league and look great value for the position they are in.

So it begs the question, why are Philadelphia so good this season?

Are the Philadelphia Eagles really that good?

Well, the Eagles have an array of things working for them now that were pretty nonexistent over the last couple of seasons.

First off, they believe in Jalen Hurts. That belief has given them their best shot caller since the departure of Carson Wentz, whose decline and fall is a warning to all quarterbacks. Last season, Hurts' detractors were baffled when he assumed the role of QB1, even after he led Philadelphia to the playoffs.

Well, it's a new season and Hurts has kept up the late 2021 campaign energy. Not bad for a supposed Alabama throwaway who had to play in Oklahoma to get the respect he deserves.

Furthermore, Philadelphia have departed from the defensive reputation they had in previous seasons.

Are Eagles the best team in the NFL?

This year, their offense has scored over twenty points in all of their games.

It has seen their starting quarterback throw for over two hundred yards in all but one game and we can finally see the wisdom in letting the offense cook. Micromanagement does not reside in Philly currently, and the team is reaping the benefits of this new model.

Last but not least, the Eagles are deep, and everyone knows their role.

This is a team with a very good wide receiver corps with the likes of DeVonta Smith, A.J. Brown, and Zach Pascal.

Then there are leaders like Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Brandon Graham, Robert Quinn and Fletcher Cox. This team knows their onions, and everyone is taking note.

So far, the Eagles have defeated every opponent and made a mockery of their preseason projections. They started the season with a close 38-35 win against the Detroit Lions. They trounced the Minnesota Vikings 24-7 in their Week 2 matchup. Following that were wins against the Washington Commanders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Arizona Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. Following a bye week, they completed a 35-13 rout of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Philadelphia have been having a party and anything is possible with Jalen Hurts playing like a stud. A.J. Brown is rolling back the Ole Miss years, and Jason Kelce is maintaining the composure of this professional dressing room.

Can the Philadelphia Eagles go unbeaten?

Only eight teams have gone undefeated in NFL history, with five going on to win the NFL Championship and finish perfect.

It is also worth noting that out of these eight, only two have achieved this feat in the Super Bowl era. They were the mythical Miami Dolphins team of 1972 and the perfect but one New England Patriots side from the 2007 season. The Dolphins won the Super Bowl, while the Patriots fell short to the Eli Manning-led New York Giants.

The odds are pretty much even for Philadelphia going unbeaten this season, with them having one of the easiest schedules in the NFL. It's a huge ask and realistically it is unlikely to happen. However, it's not impossible and we might have to make room for them in the history books. We will see if they can do it in the coming months.
