The NFL was established a century ago and you can probably imagine how many head coaches the league has seen. 103 years of football has seen an incredible 518 head coaches.

Out of these, there is one name who served in the position for 40 years as the head coach of the Chicago Bears. He was none other than George Halas, who had the longest tenure as a head coach in NFL history.

Let's look at the head coaches who have had the longest consecutive non-losing seasons in the NFL. The list includes former Chicago Bears owner and head coach George Halas and current Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin, who now ties Halas with 16 consecutive non-losing campaigns in the NFL.

Marty Schottenheimer served as head coach for the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, and the San Diego Chargers. In 1980, the Browns selected Schottenheimer as their defensive coordinator.

In 1984 he replaced Sam Rutigliano as the Browns' head coach and thus began his journey of back-to-back non-losing seasons.

He has a record of 14 consecutive non-losing seasons starting in 1984. The first five seasons were with the Cleveland Browns and the rest were with the Kansas City Chiefs. In 21 years of coaching career he had a winning record of 200-126-1.

Mike Tomlin has held the position of head coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers for 16 years. Tomlin has never had a losing season in the NFL. It is one of the longest winning streaks in the history of the NFL. He has a winning record of 162-93-2.

Mike Tomlin ended the 2022 season with a 9-8 record and he now ties George Halas with a 16 straight non-losing season record. Tomlin joined the Steelers in 2007 and has led the team to the playoffs on 10 occasions. He has won seven division titles and three AFC Championship Games. Tomlin has made two Super Bowl appearances, winning one in 2009.

Legendary Chicago Bears head coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer George Halas has the third-longest streak of finishing .500 or better by a head coach in NFL history. He had 16 consecutive winning seasons in the league from 1933 to 1951.

Halas was one of the co-founders of the American Professional Football Association (now the National Football League) in 1920. He also became the oldest person to serve as the head coach in the league. He was 72 years old when he coached the final game of his career on December 1967.

In 40 years, he led 497 games and finished with a winning record of 318-148-31.

Bill Belichick is the head coach of the New England Patriots. He has the second-most consecutive winning record in the league. Belichick has led the Patriots for 28 seasons and has had 19 back-to-back winning seasons from 2001 to 2019.

Belichick is regarded as one of the best head coaches in the history of the league. In his 28 seasons, he has a winning record of 298-152-0.

He owns multiple coaching records, including the most Super Bowl victories (six) as a head coach, all with the Patriots. He also has two more as the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, for a total of eight Super Bowl triumphs.

Tom Landry is one of the best coaches of all time. Having coached the Dallas Cowboys for 29 seasons, he has a record for most consecutive non-losing seasons (21). He was the first head coach of the Cowboys.

He started his head coaching career in 1960 and retired in 1988. Landry won two Super Bowls (Super Bowl VI and XII), five NFC championships, and 13 divisional championships. He finished with a 270-178-6 record, the fourth-most wins in NFL history, and 20 career postseason victories, the second-most ever.
