Patrick Mahomes or Joe Burrow: Who deserves to be the 2023 NFL MVP?

Among the frontrunners for the most coveted individual accolade in the NFL are Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes.

Despite the Cincinnati Bengals' early-season troubles and the absence of critical offensive pillars due to injuries, Burrow has been quite successful. In a 27-24 Bengals victory earlier last month, Burrow even outperformed Mahomes.

The NFL MVP candidates have been revealed, and Patrick Mahomes is currently the overwhelming favorite, according to the bookmakers.

Typically, the quarterback position is most likely to receive an MVP nomination. Only Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson stands out among non-QB exceptions this year.

Given that the NFL is a passing sport and that we are familiar with what happens to sides when their passer is unavailable, this trend does make logical sense.

As the starting quarterback for the AFC's top seed, Mahomes, who won the PFT MVP award earlier this month. He is currently the favorite to win the NFL MVP award.

He was also included in the AP's All-Pro team with 49 out of 50 first-place votes. The ranking frequently serves as a reliable predictor of the results of the MVP voting.

Patrick Mahomes topped the NFL charts with a career-high 5,250 yards passing and 41 scores in his fifth year as the starting quarterback. Additionally, he emerged with a quarterback rating of 105.2 and completed a career-high 67.1% of his throws.

It's impossible to think of anything that might prevent Mahomes from winning the second MVP award of his career at this juncture.

Does Joe Burrow deserve the 2023 NFL MVP?

Joe Burrow's form proved instrumental in Cincinnati Bengals's AFC triumph.

Burrow had a strong campaign, throwing for 4,475 yards, 35 touchdowns, and only 12 INTs. Burrow's MVP campaign did suffer a relatively poor start, but he picked up the pace soon enough.

Given the way he's been throwing the ball, Burrow would still have a chance to advance if the postseason games were going to count. Patrick Mahomes will have the advantage because he performed somewhat better during the regular season.

In the regular season matchup between the two, Burrow was brilliant, completing 80.7% of his throws while tossing for 286 yards and two touchdowns.

There is an argument for Burrow to join the MVP discussion, given his late-season brilliance. But since Jalen Hurts was forced to sit out two games due to injury, Mahomes has emerged as the clear frontrunner.

The Chiefs didn't entirely blow their opponents away as frequently late in the season as they did in the beginning, but Mahomes' work ethic was simply too strong from start to finish.

Burrow deserves to be discussed, even though Mahomes is the year's top pick.
