Patrick Paul 2024 NFL Draft Projection: How high could Houston OT go?

NFL Combine
Patrick Paul 2024 NFL Draft Projection

Patrick Paul possesses some clout that will make him a cult favorite in the upcoming NFL Draft.

He's the younger brother of current Washington Commanders guard Chris Paul, and their grandfather was a former President of Nigeria. But what is he as a football player?

He has been a two-time first team all-AAC at the University of Houston, blocking for Clayton Tune en route two winning records. Before his senior campaign, the Cougars joined the Big 12, where he made the first team yet again while blocking for former Texas Tech Red Raider Donovan Smith.

With all that said, where should Paul be expected to land in the upcoming Draft?

Patrick Paul 2024 NFL Draft Projection

It's no secret that this year's rookie class is full of offensive linemen prospects who are expected to make their presence felt - Joe Alt, Troy Fautanu, Olu Fashanu, Amarius Mims, Jackson Powers-Johnson, the list goes on.

With such a deep pool, it will be no surprise if Patrick Paul has to wait until the third (or even fourth) round to come off the board. The six-foot-seven, 315-lb tackle didn't exactly endear himself to scouts with a mediocre Combine showing, needing 5.13 seconds to complete the 40-yard dash.

Nevertheless, there are a few good landing spots for him, as he can work his way up the ranks and assume a major role in any of them...

3 best landing spots for Patrick Paul

3) Arizona Cardinals

Jonah Williams represents a short-term solution for the Cardinals

Last month, the Arizona Cardinals made a massive move: they released long-serving left tackle DJ Humphries, who had been struggling with injuries lately.

On the same day it happened, they signed former Cincinnati Bengal Jonah Williams, whose blind-side exploits allowed Joe Burrow to feed JaMarr Chase in historic fashion in 2021-22, especially in the playoffs.

There's just one catch: his contract lasts just two years. After that, the Cardinals are in a bind: either move Paris Johnson Jr. from the right side or draft someone else.

That can be preempted by drafting Paul on Friday or Saturday, whichever is more plausible.

2) New York Jets

The New York Jets are continuing to go all-in in the Aaron Rodgers era.

After cycling through Billy Turner, Duane Brown and Mehki Becton in the 2023-24 season, they have appeared to secure Aaron Rodgers' blind side with Tyron Smith, the former Dallas Cowboy who has been instrumental to Dak Prescott's passing successes.

Too bad it will last one year, at least initially. If it's any consolation, it's that the Jets have third- and fourth-round picks, either of which they can use which they could use on Patrick Paul.

1) Green Bay Packers

David Bakhtiari's departure marks the end of an era for the Packers

It has finally happened: David Bakhtiari is no longer a Green Bay Packer.

While injuries had hampered him in his final few seasons at Lombardi Avenue, he's still regarded as the best protector Aaron Rodgers has ever had, allowing the star quarterback to feed Davante Adams anywhere on the field and claim two MVP's in his mid- to late 30's.

With him gone, it's up to general manager Brian Gutekunst to find a suitable replacement. Is Paul the one? Only time will tell, but he could be a good candidate
