Super Bowl LVI was played on February 13th, 2022, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, home of the Los Angeles Rams. The Los Angeles Rams, champions of the NFC, faced off against the Cincinnati Bengals, champions of the AFC. The game was coached by Sean McVay for the Los Angeles Rams and Zac Taylor for the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Rams had a solid regular season, finishing with a record of 12-5. They won their division and then defeated the Arizona Cardinals, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game to advance to the Super Bowl. McVay traded for Quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Detroit Lions ahead of the season, sending former starting QB Jared Goff the other way. Stafford led the team's offense, completing 367 passes for 4,886 yards and 40 touchdowns, along with Cooper Kupp setting franchise receiving records for catches and yards, winning the triple crown (most receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns in a season). The defense was led by three-time Defensive Player of the Year Aaron Donald, who recorded 13.5 sacks that season, and defensive coordinator Brandon Staley. They also made significant moves this season, adding former Super Bowl MVP Von Miller to the defense and superstar receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the offense.

The Bengals also had a successful regular season, finishing with a record of 10-7. They entered the playoffs as the number 4 seed, winning the AFC North. They then defeated the Las Vegas Raiders, the Tennesse Titans, and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl LVI. Quarterback Joe Burrow led the team's offense, throwing for 4,611 yards and 34 touchdowns, including 1,415 yards and 13 touchdowns to Rookie wide receiver JaMarr Chase.
