If anyone thought this was going to be a quiet NFL Trade Deadline, they were sorely mistaken. The Detroit Lions kicked things off with a much-anticipated trade for Cleveland Browns pass rushed Za'Darius Smith, who will serve as perennial DPOY contender Aidan Hutchinson's replacement with the Lions DE for the foreseeable future.
Then the Bengals spiced things up by trading for Chicago Bears RB Khalil Herbert followed by the Dallas Cowboys trading for Carolina Panthers WR Jonathan Mingo.
But if appears head coach Jim Harbaugh's Los Angeles Chargers could also be considering dipping into the trade market. New England Patriots insider Mike Giardi reported that the Chargers are one of several teams that have an interesting in trading for K.J. Osborn.
Chargers trade deadline rumors: All about interest in K.J. Osborn
Fellow NFL insider Jordan Schultz added that the Patriots wide receiver has been "involved in trade talks over the past couple of weeks" and is a target for a handful of teams ahead of the NFL Trade Deadline which is at 4 p.m. EST on Tuesday.
Osborn has found himself on the outside looking in after signing a one-year, $4 million deal with the Patriots.
Patriots trade deadline: New England still waiting on pulling the trigger
There was some hope that the Patriots would be buyers rather than sellers at the trade deadline given the state of the roster. There appears to be little talent on the offensive side of the ball apart from DeMario Douglas and Hunter Henry. Rookie Ja'Lynn Polk was hailed as a shrewd pick but has struggled to fit into this offense.
On the other hand, rookie Drake Maye has grabbed the starting QB opportunity with both hands since taking over from Jacoby Brissett.
One play in particular stood out from their Week 9 outing against the Tennessee Titans where Maye refused to give up on a play with four secconds left in the game. Maye ultimately forced overtime but the Patriots ended up sliding to 2-7, capping off a roller-coaster week of football.
With the trade deadline a few hours away, however, it appears unlikely the Patriots will make any big moves.
