Is Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement? Sean Payton tries to lure former Buccaneers star to Denver Broncos

The two retirees who were most in demand last season were Sean Payton and Rob Gronkowski. Payton took time off from coaching the New Orleans Saints and was looking for some downtime before looking at a new challenge. That duly arrived when he was named the Denver Broncos coach for the upcoming season.

Now, he's trying to recruit his fellow traveler off television and back into the arena again. Sean Payton has a huge job on his hands. He needs to get the Denver offense going in a competitive division. He needs to fix Russell Wilson, who was extremely poor last season. He needs to face the Kansas City Chiefs, the Los Angeles Chargers and the Las Vegas Raiders in the division. He needs all the help he can get in terms of offensive output.

So, the new Broncos coach put out a Denver Jersey tagging the tight end and replacing 'B' with 'G' on it for it to read 'Groncos'. Now, if that's not a plea for the former tight end to join the team, then what is?

What's in it for Rob Gronkowski to join Sean Payton at Broncos?

While Sean Payton might need Rob Gronkowski to supercharge his offense, the question arises about why the tight end should take the offer. He had retired once from the NFL, citing his injuries, and only returned to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because Tom Brady gave him a call.

The catch is that there were reports that he wanted to return this season as well to help out Brady, but the deal could not go through because they just could not offer him his salary. That shouldn't be a problem in Denver, especially with the richest owners in the league setting up shop at Mile High.

Secondly, getting together with an offensive-minded coach like Sean Payton will allow him to shed the tag that he can only win with Tom Brady.

Just as the GOAT proved his worth by moving away from Bill Belichick and winning the Super Bowl in Tampa, there's a feeling that Gronkowski would like to prove he's his own man again.

Great tight ends like Shannon Sharpe have said that Travis Kelce retains the firepower to become the greatest tight end of all time. So where better for Rob Gronkowski to put that assertion to rest by playing and winning in the same division?

While nothing is certain yet, it will be a magical union if it happens. Denver fans should keep their fingers crossed.
