NFL Rumors: Chiefs interested in pulling off major trade involving Josh Allen

Could the Jacksonville Jaguars move Josh Allen before Tuesday's NFL trade deadline? The Kansas City Chiefs traded for New York Giants wide receiver Kadarius Toney last week. And they may not be done just yet. According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Chiefs are interested in trading for defensive help in the form of an edge rusher.

Allen, who is just 25 years old and still on his rookie contract, would be the ideal addition to the Chiefs defense. He has just three sacks through the first seven games of the season but is still a good trade option for teams looking for a pass rusher. He is in the fourth year of his rookie contract and still has his fifth year option available for next year.

Pass rushers have been the ideal trade target the last few years as they have been the wildcard in securing success in the playoffs and Super Bowl. The Jaguars have apparently been taking phone calls for Allen and haven't decided on whether they would actually trade the linebacker.

If Jacksonville does decide to trade the linebacker, they will likely want a 2023 first-round draft pick. As of right now, it's not believed that the Kansas City Chiefs are willing to part ways with a first-round draft pick.

Where did Josh Allen play college football?

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Josh Allen played college football at the University of Kentucky between 2015-2018. Although he had a standout junior year, he decided to continue his education in Kentucky his senior year instead of entering the NFL Draft.

That would end up being the right decision for him, as he had 17 sacks, five forced fumbles, 56 solo tackles and 88 total sacks in his senior season. He became Kentucky's All-Time sack leader with 31.5 sacks in his four years with the Wildcats. In 2018 he was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year and won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award for his dominance that season.

He was then drafted by the Jaguars with the seventh overall selection in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he had 10.5 sacks, the most by an NFL rookie in a single season. He also became the first NFL rookie to be named to the Pro Bowl.

Throughout his first four seasons in the NFL, Allen has 23.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, 94 solo tackles and 145 combined tackles.
