The Los Angeles Rams were on top of the world about 13 months ago. They celebrated their second Super Bowl victory in franchise history as they defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20.
Many expected them to have a strong 2022-2023 season, but due to many key injuries, the team finished with a lousy 5-12 record.
As the team will head in a different direction for the 2023 season, they have already started to rebuild their roster. ESPN reporter Adam Schefter reported on Monday morning that the team is expected to release outside linebacker Leonard Floyd.
The team will try to trade him before releasing him, but if they can't find a trade partner then he is expected to be released.
However, the Rams would save just $3 million in 2023 if they released him now and would have $19 million in dead money. With a post-June 1 designation, they would get $15.5 million in cap space and spread his dead cap over two years.
The team will likely cut Floyd post-June 1 to create more room but will try to trade him to another team. He's recorded nine-plus sacks in each of the last three seasons and could garner some trade interest.
