Russell Wilson was initially listed as questionable on the Denver Broncos injury report due to a hamstring injury. However, the Super Bowl-winning quarterback has been ruled out by Broncos head Nathaniel Hackett against the New York Jets.

Wilson suffered the injury during Denver's 19-16 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6.

The former Seattle Seahawks star had an MRI earlier in the week and Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network stated that Wilson was in “real pain."

Russell Wilson joked to the media earlier in the week that he was healing following his injury.

"I’m feeling better. I’m feeling better every day, day by day. Obviously, it happened Monday night, but the good thing is I heal quickly. I don’t know — wolverine blood or whatever. I’m getting better.”

Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett backed his starter's comments later in the week, saying that he would be a game-time decision versus the Jets. Now, the Broncos will turn to a familiar face under center in Week 7.

Who will replace Russell Wilson under center for the Broncos in Week 7?

Backup quarterback Brett Rypien will be lining up against the Jets in Week 7 at home, replacing Russell Wilson. The 26-year-old signal-caller is in his third season in the NFL, all with the Broncos. Rypien, whose uncle is Super Bowl-winning quarterback Mark Rypien, talked about the reps taken in practice.

"I've taken more reps, obviously, this week... You want to do your job the best you can and put some points on the board.''

Rypien's only other NFL start was also against the Jets in the 2020-21 season. He led the Broncos to a 37-28 victory in that Week 4 matchup. Rypien threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions. Rypien will now look to lead Denver to their third win of the 2022-23 season this weekend.
