Saints' worst draft picks over past 10 years ranked

Here's a list of five players who didn't live up to pre-draft expectations in the past decade:

#5 Stephone Anthony, Edge rusher, Clemson, 2015 NFL Draft

The New Orleans Saints saw a bucket load of potential in Stephone Anthony, and they drafted the Clemson edge rusher early in the 2015 NFL Draft. Anthony was drafted to provide an instant spark in what was by then a stale outside linebacker rotation.

However, the Clemson Tigers product never developed into the prospect they desired. He garnered a mere 1.0 sacks in his two-year stint in New Orleans and was traded to the Miami Dolphins for a fifth-round pick.

#4 Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Defensive back, Nebraska, 2014 NFL Draft

Stanley Jean-Baptiste was a star defensive back for Nebraska and was highly regarded coming out of college. The New Orleans Saints bought into the hype and selected him in the second round of the 2014 Draft.

In his rookie season, Stanley Jean-Baptiste played only four games for the Saints. Most of his appearances were on special teams, and he was released before his sophomore season.

#3 Ian Book, Quarterback, Notre Dame, 2021 NFL Draft

After a string of poor luck, Ian Book had the chance to be the Saints' starting quarterback, which allowed the Notre Dame product to announce himself on the grand stage.

How did Ian Book perform in that game? Well, he went 12–20 for 135 yards and two interceptions. The New Orleans Saints lost that game, and he was waived ahead of his sophomore season. He hasn't played an NFL snap since then.

#2 Zack Baun, Linebacker, Wisconsin, 2020 NFL Draft

Zack Baun was a standout linebacker at Wisconsin, and that's why the Saints took a chance on him.

He stayed on the roster for his entire rookie deal but didn't earn another contract. Baun's 88 tackles, 2.0 sacks, one interception, one pass deflection and one fumble recovery don't make for good reading.

#1 Marcus Davenport, Defensive end, UTSA, 2018 NFL Draft

Marcus Davenport missed many games during his time with the New Orleans Saints. Those missed games were a result of injuries and character concerns.

Davenport's lowest moment in New Orleans was being demoted after being ejected for fighting with an opponent. He never returned the value placed on him after the Saints traded draft picks to get him on their roster.
