The first Monday Night Football game of the 2024 NFL season featured Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets being hosted by the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium. It was supposed to be a fascinating matchup and it did not disappoint.
The Jets, who had struggled to score last year in the first quarter, seemed to be falling back into old habits as they gave up the first points through a field goal after a Breece Hall fumble forced by Fred Warner. But Aaron Rodgers, with significant help from Garrett Wilson, led them to a touchdown to lead 7-3.
The second quarter saw the 49ers strike back to reduce the arrears with another field goal before Deebo Samuel scored to put the 49ers 13-7 ahead. Another field goal towards the end of the half gave the home team a 16-7 lead.
The second half was one-way traffic as the Jets scored just 12 points, with two touchdowns, one in garbage time by Tyrod Taylor, and two missed two-point conversions. The final score was 32-19 in San Francisco's favor.

49ers vs. Jets game summary
The first quarter saw both teams go three-and-out on their first possessions before the Jets' second drive saw Breece Hall cough up the ball under pressure from Fred Warner. That gave the San Francisco 49ers a great field position from which they opened the scoring with a field goal. But a clinical drive by Aaron Rodgers followed, in which he targeted Garrett Wilson four times before New York had a rushing touchdown to go 7-3 up in the first quarter.
The second quarter swung the way of San Francisco after Brock Purdy engineered a drive that led to a field goal to make the score 7-6. The Jets were forced to punt on their next drive and the 49ers quarterback made them pay with a touchdown drive that made the score 13-7. It could have been 20-7 before halftime had Brandon Aiyuk not dropped a dime, but a field goal gave them a 16-7 lead going into the break.
The second half started strongly for San Francisco as they engineered a touchdown on their first drive, expanding their lead to 23-7. An Aaron Rodgers interception gave them the ball back on the next drive and they scored a field goal to go up 26-7. The Jets hit back through Allen Lazard to reduce the arrears to 26-13 but the two-point conversion failed.
Another attempt by kicker Moody was successful in the fourth quarter to give the 49ers a 29-13 lead. After the Jets' next drive petered out, it was time for them to wave the white flag and bench Aaron Rodgers for Tyrod Taylor, but not before San Francisco had made the score 32-13 with yet another field goal. The Jets backup engineered a drive going into the two-minute warning to throw a touchdown to Lazard and make the final score 32-19, with another failed two-point conversion.
