Sean Payton is easily the top head coaching candidate out there as there are several vacancies around the NFL. The former New Orleans Saints head coach confirmed that one of those teams with a head coaching vacancy reached out to him. Payton confirmed on the Fox NFL Kickoff show that the Denver Broncos have been in contact regarding the job. The 59-year-old noted that the Broncos and Saints were in contact with one another as well.
After retiring prior to the start of the season, Payton had two years left on his contract with the Saints. Should the Broncos or any other team decide to hire Sean Payton, compensation would be needed for the Saints. Denver fired Nathaniel Hackett after Week 16 as the Broncos had a record of 4 - 11 at the time.
Hackett was in his first season with Denver after spending three seasons as the Green Bay Packers' offensive coordinator.
