Should I drop De'Von Achane? Week 6 fantasy projection for Dolphins RB

Miami Dolphins running back De'Von Achane instantly got on fantasy manager radars around the country when he exploded against the Denver Broncos last season. However, in 2024, Achane hasn't been quite as lucrative. In his third straight performance earning less than 31 yards on the ground, Achane suffered an injury.

After a tough few weeks and perhaps some missed time, is it time for managers to cut ties? Here's a look at the player and a recommendation.

The choice to move on from De'Von Achane is a painful one. However, after almost 33% of the fantasy season, the Dolphins running back has had just two weeks of borderline flex production. On top of that, he could miss a game or two due to a concussion, assuming he heals at a normal rate.

The Dolphins have a bye in Week 6, so it would seem that Achane would miss one game at maximum in addition to lacking production in Week 6 due to the scheduled break.

Meanwhile, Raheem Mostert has made somewhat of a statement by delivering 80 yards in his first game in a month. As such, for Achane to return to a quality fantasy prospect, he needs to first get healthy, find a way to overtake a heating-up Mostert and then deliver once he gets the opportunity.

He also needs to shrug off a down month. It's asking a lot. If you don't drop him, he should be considered your last running back option.

De'Von Achane fantasy outlook for the rest of 2024 season

Achane has had roughly 10 carries in most of his games, with all but one outing earning more than 30 yards. He simply isn't a bellcow for the Dolphins offense, and even with a carousel of quarterbacks, coach Mike McDaniel doesn't appear to be interested in featuring him.

A soul-searching bye in Week 6 might change his mind for Week 7, but if managers are going to move on now, it gives them one more week to find a replacement.

As it stands, the prospects for Achane are grim. He may have another breakout game at some point, but if you play him every week expecting it, the cost will be too great in the end. Is eight weeks of five points or fewer worth one week of 20+ points? Also, the odds of locating the exact game this will happen will be a roll of the dice.

At this point, if Raheem Mostert is available, he might be the better option. Aside from him, there likely isn't any other interesting season-long worth addition until (or if) Tua Tagovailoa returns this year. One may wish to consider streaming the Dolphins' defense for a week or two depending on the matchup, but the pickings are slim on this offense in its current state.

After their bye in Week 6, the Dolphins take on the Indianapolis Colts in Week 7 in a road matchup on Sunday, Oct. 20.
