Jerry Jeudy was supposed to be a part of a monstrous offensive corps when he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in the 2024 offseason. Alongside quarterback Deshaun Watson, running back Nick Chubb, fellow wide receivers Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore, and tight end David Njoku, he was supposed to help the franchise clinch its first AFC North title since reactivation.
However, all those aspirations have complletely fallen apart. The Browns are unquestionably one of the league's worst teams so far, with Watson especially attracting much condemnation for his poor play. And that's not to mention Cooper being traded to the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday for draft picks, reducing the core.
It does not get any easier for them, as they meet the similarly struggling Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, so can Jeudy salvage this season?
Should you add Jerry Jeudy in Week 7?
By this point, one must be asking how poor Jerry Jeudy has been. The answer is more complex than initally thought.
In two of the first four games, he was decent, catching at least five passes for at least 70 yards. But it was in the next two games - losses against the NFC East - where he truly collapsed.
Against the Washington Commanders and the Philadelphia Eagles, he was held to a single reception, each as their secondaries made the passing game a struggle to dominate.
Then, there are the Bengals. The cornerback depth may not be there, especially with Daxton Hill's injury. But linebackers Logan Wilson and Germaine Pratt and safeties Vonn Bell and Geno Stone represent a blanket that could rush in and stop Jeudy from expanding on whatever play he makes.
That's assuming that either defensive ends Sam Hubbard and Trey Hendrickson don't reach Deshaun Watson first. But given the Browns' offensive struggles, there's a strong chance they might.
All that said, one would be wise to bench Jeudy for other more visible wideouts:
Jerry Jeudy's fantasy outlook for the rest of the 2024 season
If a good number of fans are to be asked, 2024 looks to be a throwaway season for Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry.
Deshaun Watson isn't playing to the value of his fully guaranteed contract. Amari Cooper is gone, which could leave Jerry Jeudy as the Browns' top receiver in 2024, even above Elijah Moore.
Even then, his final numbers will look very weak. The other quarterbacks are Jameis Winston, a former starter who has lost much of his value, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson, a sophomore who hasn't been impressive in the games he started, which doesn't inspire confidence in his chances of having a career year.
