Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers' 2022-23 season officially ended in Week 18 as they lost to the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. In the loss, Rodgers threw for 205 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Rodgers will miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
In a recent edition of the Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed, Skip Bayless went all-in on the 39-year-old quarterback, commenting on him missing the postseason.
Bayless said:
"But in the grand scheme of things, when it's time, you can't trust him. But you can trust that when he blows a home playoff game, he will immediately play the retirement card. He is the greatest media manipulator in the history of this league. He knows exactly how to play the game.
"If he blows a home playoff game, because he's the greatest blame-deflecting diva ever, you immediately dropped the retirement hint like I may have to stop. What was the first quote at some point the carousel comes to stop and it's time to get off."
Bayless added:
"So right away he's going into his retirement spiel because he wants Packer nation to say, 'Please, Aaron, please come back. We need you back next year.' Yeah, well, do you really because all I gotta tell you is he averaged 217 yards passing this year. It was a career low.
"His QBR average for this year was 39. That was a career low. He threw 12 interceptions. It was the second most of his career. It's unAaron, unAaron, unAaron and they kept trying to take the ball out of his hands. It worked until last night when they just ran into a team that outplayed them."
This season has easily been one of the worst of Aaron Rodgers' NFL career as it was far from his previous back-to-back MVP seasons.
This season is one that Aaron Rodgers would like to forget
He threw for 3,695 yards this season, just his fifth career season with under 4,000 yards as a starter. His 26 touchdowns thrown are the fewest since throwing 25 in the 2018-19 season. Most startlingly, Aaron Rodgers and his 12 interceptions this season were the most thrown in a season since the 2008-09 season. He also threw 12 that season, his first as the Packers' full-time starting quarterback.
The Green Bay Packers nearly made it to the playoffs despite starting the season with a 4-8 record, including a five-game losing streak. Nonetheless, questions have come up about whether the four-time All-Pro will return next season. Aaron Rodgers commented that he'll use the offseason to wight his options.
Rodgers said:
“It’s a feeling of what it’ll come down to this offseason. Do I feel like I have anything left to prove to myself? Do I want to go back and gear up for another grind? Or is it time? Is it time to step away? Is it time for another voice to be leading this team?”
The quarterback mentioned that he has zero issues leaving money behind after signing a three-year, $150.8M extension before the start of the season. We'll see what's in store for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers this upcoming offseason.
