The Super Bowl is the ultimate prize in the NFL. Every team, coach, and player dreams of holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy and wearing a Super Bowl ring.
Teams spend billions of dollars on contracts during the off-season and make trades to acquire the best players and coaches in an effort to become a top contender for the trophy.
Of the 32 teams in the NFL, 12 have never won a Super Bowl, and four have never even made an appearance in the big game. Here is a list of teams with the most Super Bowl wins.
Tied #1. New England Patriots (6 wins)
The New England Patriots are an American football team in the NFL, playing in the American Football Conference (AFC). Founded in 1959, the team has been one of the most successful franchises in the league and has won six Super Bowls in 11 appearances.
The Patriots made two appearances in the Bowl in 1985 and 1996, but unfortunately, they lost in both appearances. In January 2000, the team hired Bill Belichick to be their head coach.
Under his leadership, the team made an appearance in the Bowl during the 2001 season, ultimately winning the franchise's first Bowl trophy.
Belichick and his star quarterback, Tom Brady, went on to win five more Bowl trophies in nine appearances. This solidified the team's place in NFL history as one of the most successful and dominant dynasties of all time.
Tied #1. Pittsburgh Steelers (6 wins)
The Pittsburgh Steelers, founded in 1933, are the seventh-oldest team in the NFL. They compete in the American Football Conference (AFC) and are tied with the Patriots for the most Super Bowl wins in NFL history.
The team made its first Bowl appearance in 1974, and under the leadership of head coach Chuck Noll, they went on to win it. Noll also led the Steelers to Super Bowl victories in 1975, 1978, and 1979, making them the first team to win it four times in six years.
In addition to these early successes, the Steelers made four more appearances and won two more championships under Bill Cowher and Mike Tomlin in 2005 and 2008, respectively.
Tied #2. Dallas Cowboys (5 wins)
The Dallas Cowboys, nicknamed "America's Team," are in the NFL's National Football Conference (NFC). They joined the NFL in 1960 and have since become one of the most successful and popular teams in NFL history.
Tom Landry served as the head coach of the Cowboys from 1960 to 1988. During that time, he led them to five Super Bowl appearances, winning two championships in 1971 and 1977.
The Cowboys made their first Bowl appearance in 1970, where they lost to the Baltimore Colts (now known as the Indianapolis Colts), 16-13. However, that game saw Cowboys linebacker Chuck Howley become the first and only player from a losing team to win the Super Bowl MVP award.
The Cowboys went on to make three more appearances in 1992, 1993, and 1995, winning all three.

The San Francisco 49ers is an American football team founded in 1946 that plays in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the NFL. They have a proud history of success, having won the Bowl five times in seven appearances.
The 49ers made their first appearance in 1989 and went on to win it. The team won all of its first five Super Bowl appearances but have since lost in its last two appearances in 2012 and 2017.
Bill Walsh was the 49ers' head coach from 1979 to 1988, during which time he led the team to three of their five wins. George Seifert, who served as head coach from 1989 to 1996, won the other two for the 49ers. Seifert achieved this impressive feat in his first season as head coach of the team.

The Green Bay Packers, founded in 1919, are the only non-profit, community-owned team in the NFL. They compete in the NFC and are one of the most successful teams in the league.
The Packers have won four Super Bowls in five appearances, which averages to an 80% win rate. They made their first appearance in the first-ever Super Bowl, winning against the Kansas City Chiefs with a score of 35-10.
The Packers then became the first team to win back-to-back Bowls, and the trophy was named after their head coach, Vince Lombardi. The team went on to make three more appearances in 1996, 1997, and 2010, winning in the 1996 and 2010 seasons.

The New York Giants are an American football team in the National Football League (NFL) playing in the National Football Conference (NFC). They joined the NFL in 1925 and were the only team remaining among the five teams that joined the league that year.
The Giants are a successful team, having won four Super Bowls out of their five appearances, making them one of only six teams to have won four or more in the NFL.
The Giants made their first Bowl appearance in 1986, where they won against the Denver Broncos with a score of 39-20. During that game, Giants quarterback Phil Simms completed 22 of 25 passes, setting a record for the highest pass completion percentage at 88%.
The Giants' most recent appearance was in 2011, where they beat the New England Patriots by a score of 21-17, making it the second time the Giants have defeated the Patriots in the Super Bowl. The first time was in 2007.
