Super Bowl VII, held on January 14, 1973, marked the culmination of the 1972 NFL season. The game featured the Miami Dolphins, champions of the American Football Conference (AFC), facing off against the Washington Redskins, winners of the National Football Conference (NFC). The game was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California. The Miami Dolphins emerged victorious with a final score of 14-7.

Super Bowl VII was noted for Dolphins' defense dominance, which was able to hold the Redskins' high-powered offense to just seven points. The Dolphins' defense was led by defensive end Super Bowl MVP safety Jake Scott who recorded two interceptions for 63 return yards. He became the second defensive winner of the award.

Miami's offense also had a strong showing, with running back Larry Csonka rushing for 112 yards and a touchdown.

The 1972 Miami Dolphins team is considered one of the greatest in NFL history, and their Super Bowl VII win was the pinnacle of their success. The team completed the season with a perfect 17-0 record and was the first and still the only team in NFL history to finish the season undefeated and untied.

Every season, the team that stays perfect the longest is inevitably compared to the '72 Dolphins, but no team has completed the achievement. The 2007 Patriots made it to the Super Bowl at 19-0 but failed at the last hurdle to hoist the Lombardi trophy.
