The visitors opened the scoreboard at 8:33 in the first quarter. Russell Wilson threw a long pass to George Pickens, who completed the play with a spectacular catch after getting separated from his defender.
After the Steelers tried to surprise the Commanders in fourth down, with a fake punt that ended in a pass incomplete, the Commanders charged again and tied the game thanks to a one-yard score from Austin Ekeler.

The Pittsburgh Steelers regained the lead with a Pat Freiermuth touchdown after Russell Wilson found him in the end zone at 10:28 in the second quarter.
Zane Gonzalez cut the lead to four points with a 48-yard field goal for the Commanders.
As the second quarter was nearing its end, Austin Ekeler scored his second touchdown of the afternoon with a one-yard run to give his team the 17-14 lead ahead of halftime.

After Jayden Daniels connected with Terry McLaurin twice (54 and 16 yards, respectively) in the first drive of the third quarter, Jeremy McNichols extended Washington's lead to 10 points with a one-yard touchdown.
After getting sacked by the Commanders' defense, Russell Wilson connected with George Pickens to get closer to the end zone. Najee Harris found the end zone with another short run to put the Steelers close to Washington at 8:06 in the third period. Zane Gonzalez again extended Washington's lead with a 41-yard field goal.

At 2:22 in the fourth quarter, Russell Wilson found Steelers' newest acquisition Mike Williams for a game-tying touchdown. Chris Boswell put Pittsburgh ahead on the scoreboard with the extra point.
The Steelers got a crucial stop with 1:04 on the clock after the Commanders turned the ball over on downs. They secured the one-point win to improve to 7-2 in the season.
