Sam LaPorta is dealing with an injury in the Detroit Lions training camp before the 2024 NFL season. According to Justin Rogers of Detroit Football Network, LaPorta missed Tuesday's training due to a hamstring issue.
A day earlier, CBS Sports reported that LaPorta did not participate in training due to an undisclosed issue. Lions' coach Dan Campbell said that the All-Pro tight end would be fine and there was no need for concern. Brock Wright, James Mitchell, and Shane Zylstra handled the additional first-team reps in LaPorta's absence.

Sam LaPorta had one of the better rookie tight-end seasons. The Iowa product formed a great understanding with Jared Goff and helped himself to 86 receptions, 889 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns. He was also important as a blocker and earned second-team All-Pro honors at the end of the season.

LaPorta suffered a knee injury in a Week 18 game against the Minnesota Vikings. He went into intense rehabilitation to be fit for the playoffs and appeared in all three of the Lions' postseason games.
He hopes this latest setback won't affect his availability for next month's start to the upcoming season.
Sam LaPorta and the Lions chase glory in 2024
LaPorta and the Detroit Lions had a season to remember in 2023. The franchise played a fearless brand of offensive football and ended the regular season with a 12-5 record.
They enjoyed stellar performances from Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, LaPorta, and their offensive linemen. The franchise was this close to making the Super Bowl. They fell short to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.
The Lions are expected to build on their momentum in 2024. The franchise has signed Goff and St. Brown to extensions, thus motivating them for the new season. Dan Campbell will rally his troops as they attempt to make a Super Bowl appearance.
