Against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football, Miami Dolphins starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made his third consecutive start since returning from a concussion that sidelined him for four games.
However, Tagovailoa made a daring tackle attempt that endangered his health during the game, giving everyone watching the Monday night game a scare.
LA Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom intercepted a pass thrown by the quarterback during the first half. After that, Tagovailoa tried to tackle Rozeboom to regain possession of the ball, but his attempt was met with disapproval from many as he plunged headfirst and struck Rozeboom's knee.
NFL fans and analysts were quickly alarmed by the risky tackle technique because of Tagovailoa's history of concussions.
However, Tagovailoa was unharmed by the challenge and got to his feet right after without displaying any symptoms of injury. He talked about his choice to plunge headfirst after the game, shrugging off his bad tackling technique.
Tagovailoa laughed and acknowledged that his tackle was a bad challenge after the game. "Didn't feel any of that. That was pretty bad tackling form, though. That was pretty terrible," he said.
The most important thing is that Dolphins supporters can relax knowing that Tagovailoa did not sustain another head injury during that play and won't be missing any games.
How many times has Tua Tagovailoa sustained head injuries?
Tua Tagovailoa left the Miami Dolphins vs. Buffalo Bills NFL game in Week 2 after suffering a frightening head injury in the third quarter. That was the third concussion the quarterback has suffered in his five-year NFL career.
Tagovailoa had his first concussion during a Thursday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4 of the 2022 NFL season. The quarterback had suffered a heavy fall onto the ground against the Bills four days prior to that game; first, it was thought to be a head injury, but it was later revealed to be a back injury. However, he was carried off on a stretcher during the Week 4 loss to the Bengals.
Tagovailoa suffered his second concussion against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16 of the 2022 season. He missed the season's last two games, including a game in the playoff, as a result of the injury.
Concerns have been raised regarding Tua Tagovailoa's health following the third concussion of his career, but he has proven resilient and dedicated to his career, stating that the thought of retiring never crossed his mind.
