News that the New York Jets have fired head coach Robert Saleh just five games into the new season has made headlines on Tuesday. The last coach to lose his job this early in the season was Matt Rhule, who the Carolina Panthers fired after going 1-4 in the first five games of the 2022 season.
Saleh served as the head coach of the Jets for just over three seasons. He joined the club ahead of the 2021 season on a five-year contract.

Robert Saleh's New York Jets' salary explored
According to Front Office Sports, Robert Saleh's salary with the Jets was $5 million, making him the joint 12th-highest-paid head coach in the league before he was fired on Tuesday.

The Jets appointed Saleh with the hope that he would help the team record its first winning record since 2015.
However, Saleh, who had served as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers from 2017 to 2020 before he joined the Jets, was only able to lead the team to a 4-13 record in his first season. He guided the squad to a 7-10 record in 2022 and 2023. He has been sacked following the squad's 2-3 start to the 2024 season.
Saleh concluded his head coaching career with the Jets with a 20-36 record overall.
Who will replace Robert Saleh as head coach of the Jets?
Following their Sunday 23-17 defeat incurred by the Minnesota Vikings in London, the New York Jets have named defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as their interim head coach to replace Robert Saleh.
But since Ulbrich was only named the interim manager, it appears the Jets will eventually look to replace him. The legendary Bill Belichick and former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel are two candidates the Jets can consider to permanently replace Saleh.
Ulbrich's first assignment in his new position will be a tough one, as the Jets are scheduled to face the Buffalo Bills at home on Monday Night Football in Week 6.
