As per reports, a sternoclavicular joint dislocation is the complete rupture of all the sternoclavicular and costoclavicular ligaments. Generally, it is caused by trauma when a force is indirectly applied to the shoulder or the chest. In Brown's case, reports suggest that his clavicle entered his sternum.

Brown picked up the injury during Kansas City's first offensive play against the Jaguars. He caught an 11-yard pass and then landed awkwardly. The wideout was in some discomfort when he got up and then headed to the locker room.

The Chiefs announced that Brown was questionable for the rest of the game, but the player did not return. Kansas City lost its preseason opener 26-13 against Jacksonville.

While speaking to reporters after Kansas City's preseason loss to the Jaguars on Saturday, Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed Marquise Brown's injury. He likened it to the injury Tyreek Hill suffered in 2019.

"As far as the injuries go, Hollywood Brown has that same thing that Tyreek had down here, actually," Reid said. "Sternoclavicular post dislocation. They've taken him to the hospital. They'll check him out, and they're working on that as we speak.
"I think he'll miss some time. We'll just see where it's at. We're kind of going through it right now. We'll know more later on here."

The Chiefs are yet to announce when Brown will return to action. However, reports claim that a sternoclavicular dislocation can take up to six weeks to three months to heal.

As things stand, it's unlikely that Brown will recover in time for the start of the Chiefs' regular season. Nonetheless, we will have to wait for an official update from the team.

Brown signed for Kansas City this offseason. The wideout was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2019 and also played two years with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Chiefs, who are the reigning Super Bowl champions, will begin their title defense by hosting the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 5.
