FX has announced a release date for Aaron Hernandez's "American Sports Story" which will premiere next month. The 10-episode limited series will delve into the life of late NFL tight end Hernandez and his criminal convictions.

Hernandez's "American Sports Story" will debut on September 17 at 10 p.m. ET on FX. The show will begin with a two-episode premiere and the remaining eight episodes will air weekly.

The "American Sports Story" on Hernandez will showcase the rise and fall of the former New England Patriots tight end. Josh Rivera, who acted in "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will star as Hernandez in the show.

The sports series will be the third installment of the "American Story" anthology franchise produced by Ryan Murphy. The previous installments are "American Horror Story" and "American Crime Story."

Murphy produced some of the most captivating real-life stories in the country with this franchise, including "American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson" and "American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace." For Hernandez's story, the show will explore his career, criminal conviction, and eventual suicide.

When did Aaron Hernandez commit suicide?

Aaron Hernandez died of suicide, by hanging himself, on April 17, 2017. At the time, he was in his cell at Souza-Baranowski in Central Massachusetts prison, serving a life sentence. He was 27-years-old at the time of his passing.

Hernandez was arrested in the 2013 NFL offseason, for his connection to the murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was a semi-professional football player who was reportedly dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancée at the time of his death.

The New England Patriots drafted Hernandez in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft. He played three years with the team, posting 1,956 yards and 18 touchdowns on 175 receptions.
