On Sunday, the Cleveland Browns held on for an 18-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars to bounce back from a Week 1 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. There were improvements on several fronts for the Browns, but perhaps the most encouraging sign for the fans was a rare sighting of Nick Chubb.
Chubb was placed on the PUP list to start the season, giving him time to recover from an ACL injury. In his absence, Jerome Ford has been the lead back, but with injuries rising in the league, the Browns will await Chubb's return from injury with bated breath. Here's everything we know about Nick Chubb's potential return to action this season.

Is Nick Chubb out for the year?
As things stand, entering Week 3, the franchise has not ruled Chubb out for the season. Leaving him on the PUP list was seen as a decision to give him time to recover after he suffered multiple knee ligament tears in 2023.
In a Q&A session prior to Week 1, Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot delivered a rough timeline on Chubb's return from injury. Cabot wrote:
"I think the hope was always that Chubb, on Physically Unable to Perform for at least the first four weeks, would be ready midway through the season, possibly by Week 8 against the Ravens, Week 9 against the Chargers or perhaps after the bye in Week 10."
Cabot outlined the severity of his injury, adding that he needs time to recover from the second major left knee reconstruction of his career.
"He also had a torn MCL and medial capsule," Cabot said. "He continues to make tremendous progress, and has amazed the Browns with his brave comeback. But there’s no rush to get him out there, and the Browns want him healthy for the long haul."
Could Nick Chubb be back in Week 5?
Considering his most recent injury required two surgeries, it's difficult to see the Browns bringing Chubb back in Week 5 even if he's off the PUP list.
Given he is a running back, the franchise will likely ease him into action once he's medically cleared to return to full-contact training. In the meantime, they have Jerome Ford on the depth chart to keep pace while Chubb recovers.
Another point to note is that the Browns have a Week 10 bye. If the Browns plan around their bye week to bring him back into the team, that would afford Chubb enough time before they face a rough slate of games. Cleveland will go up against the Chiefs (Week 15), Bengals (Week 16), Dolphins (Week 17) and Ravens (Week 18) to close out the regular season.
