We have reached the 13th week of the regular season. While fantasy managers may lament the potential lost opportunity for points, the bye week gives NFL teams a much-needed rest.

Two teams will take the week off this week after no teams had a bye in Week 12. The Week 13 bye week is shared by the Carolina Panthers and Arizona Cardinals.

For its members, the NFL regular season may be taxing. The only break from the weekly strain of top-flight football is the yearly bye week. The league schedule makers added the bye to optimize each group's opportunity for rest and rehabilitation.

The league decided to grant teams bye weeks due to a mix of travel issues, schedule difficulties, possible television revenue from a more extended season, and player injury.

What the NFL bye week means for the Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals had realistic playoff hopes at the start of this campaign. However, due to injuries and subpar performances, those hopes are now implausible. How motivated the Cardinals will be when they return for the remaining five contests is yet to be known.

Offensive line starters Rodney Hudson at center and Will Hernandez at right guard are among the guys the Cardinals are hoping to have back following the bye week. Other players who could participate against the New England Patriots on December 12 include cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. and wide receiver Rondale Moore.

What the NFL bye week means for the Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are finally experiencing success as they enter their bye week. The squad, which is currently 4-8 after starting the season at 1-6, has had a relatively solid month overall, aside from their dismal performance against the Baltimore Ravens.

The Panthers have a bye week to recover from injuries and develop a strategy to take advantage of one of the lightest remaining matchups in the NFL.

The coaching staff also needs to make the necessary modifications after a devastating 25-24 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.

After Matt Rhule was sacked earlier this season, the Carolina Panthers are now 3-4 under Steve Wilks.
