The New York Giants finished last season in third place in the NFC East, with a disappointing 6-11 record. However, they didn't have Daniel Jones for parts of the season, after the quarterback tore his ACL in November against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Nonetheless, Jones appears to have recovered well and has been a vital cog in New York's training camp this year. He is expected to feature in the preseason, but the Giants are yet to announce whether Jones will start as the quarterback against the Lions on Thursday night.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions had their best run in franchise history last season, making it to their maiden NFC championship game. They were one game away from a Super Bowl appearance but were eliminated from the postseason by the San Francisco 49ers.

The Lions will now aim to fine-tune their squad in the preseason ahead of an important 2024 season. Detroit is expected to start QB1 Jared Goff against the Giants on Thursday but could test the strength of its quarterback depth chart as well.
